Indications/Uses
Acute & low back pain management. Primary dysmenorrhea. Relief of acute & chronic pain, RA & OA inflammation. Symptomatic relief of ankylosing spondylitis (AS).
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Symptomatic treatment of OA 200 mg as single dose or 100 mg bd. RA 100 or 200 mg bd. AS 200 mg as single dose or 100 mg bd. Total dose: 400 mg daily. Acute pain management, primary dysmenorrhea Initially 400 mg, followed by additional 200 mg on 1st day, then 200 mg bd as needed. Low back pain 100 mg bd or 200 mg once daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Dose for OA/RA may be given w/ or w/o meals.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to celecoxib or sulfonamides. Patients who have experienced asthma, urticaria or allergic-type reactions after taking ASA or NSAIDs including other COX-2 inhibitors. Peri-op pain treatment in CABG surgery, established & increased risk of CV disease eg, ischemic heart disease, stroke.
Special Precautions
Anaphylactoid reactions & serious skin infections eg, DRESS, exfoliative dermatitis, SJS & TEN. Patients w/ prior history of or active GI disease eg, ulceration, bleeding, inflammation or other risk factors associated w/ PUD eg, alcoholism, smoking or corticosteroid therapy; CV disease or CV thrombotic events eg, MI & stroke. Patients w/ HTN taking ACE inhibitors, thiazide & loop diuretics; w/ fluid retention & edema taking diuretics. Concomitant use w/ glucocorticoids, antiplatelet drugs eg, ASA or other NSAIDs; oral anticoagulants eg, apixaban, dabigatran, rivaroxaban. Advanced renal disease. Severe hepatic & renal impairment. Not to be used during pregnancy & lactation. Childn. Elderly or debilitated patients.
Adverse Reactions
HTN. Sinusitis, URTI, pharyngitis, UTI, hypersensitivity, insomnia, dizziness, hypertonia, headache, MI, rhinitis, cough, dyspnea, nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea, dyspepsia, flatulence, vomiting, dysphagia, rash, pruritus, arthralgia, flu-like illness, peripheral edema/fluid retention, injury.
Drug Interactions
Poor CYP2C9 metabolizers, warfarin, lithium, ASA, anti-hypertensives including ACE inhibitors or AIIAs, diuretics, β-blockers, cyclosporine, fluconazole, ketoconazole, dextromethorphan, metoprolol.
